PRODUCTION
- In year 2001 automobile production decreased 41% compared
to year 2000. Production was 175,343 units in year 2001. Although domestic market demand
decreases enormously, 142,000 vehicles production for export helped the producers to
continue production using their capacity partially.
- Production for domestic market in year 2001 was 33,055
units.

SALES
- In year 2001, a temporary increase in sales occurred in
November and December. This is due to VAT decrease which lasted for a few months and
decrease in additional vehicle purchase tax for vehicles less than 1600 cc.

- In year 2001 total automobile sales decreased 72% compared
to year 2000.
- Import vehicles market share in year 2001 reached to 55%
which is quite high.
EXPORT
- According to Exporters Union, in year 2001, export amount
of automobiles increased 58% compared to year 2000. The export amount is 980 million USD.
- In year 2001 142,300 vehicles are exported. Volume wise,
increase is 74% compared to year 2000.

SUMMARY
In year 2001, economic crisis hit Turkish Automobile
sector hard. Sales became the lowest in last 10 years. Sales decreased 72% compared to
year 2000. However exports increased 74% compared to year 2000 and export volume became
142,300. Because of exports, decrease in automobile production stopped at 41% and
production kept going partially. |
